Nike National Las Vegas Summer Classic - 99

At the 1999 Nike National Las Vegas Summer Classic the NorCal Magic Basketball team captured the title in the boy's varsity division. It was their second consecutive championship. ......more......

MAGIC Runner-Up @ Labor Day Invitational

This past weekend Nor Cal Basketball Inc. sponsored the Labor Day Invitational with over 90 teams in various divisions from California, Oregon and Nevada.  In the boys varsity division the Oakland Runnin Rebels Defeated the NorCal Magic 71-67.  MVP and all tournament selections were James Akinjo, MVP from McClymonds High.  All Tournament selections were James Pugh (Grant of Sacramento), Antonio Parker (Oakland High), and  Cameron Gray  (San Lorenzo) from the Rebels.  From the Magic on the  All-Tournament team were Marquinn Chandler (Newark Memorial), Jamal Hill (El Cerrito) and Ebon Glen (St. Mary’s in Berkeley).

MAGIC WINS FALL SHOOTOUT

The NorCal Magic , behind the efforts of MVP Marquin Chandler (Newark Memorial ) and All Tournament players Jamal Hill (El Cerrito), Janou Rubin (James Logan ), Ebon Glenn (St Mary's ), and Gary Hill-Thomas (B O'Dowd ), won the boys varsity division of the October Fall Shootout.

Other Magic players were Kellen Dixon (St Mary's), Lonnie Addison (Castlemont), Keith Wilright (Oak Tech), and Damien Carter (Richmond HS ).

MAGIC Wins Fifth Consecutive TOC 

       The NorCal Magic won the Tournament of Champions, sponsored by  Bay Area Youth Sports, last weekend in Alameda with a 56-53 win over NorCal Walnut Creek in the final.  The Magic also won over Santa Rosa 56-48 and Marin County 103-60 in the tournament.  David Bell (Hayward HS), Perry Pugh (Berkeley HS ), Paul Marigney (Castlemont), Kaylin Thornton ( Berkeley HS ), and Gary Hill-Thomas (B. O'Dowd ) were all named to the All Tournament Team.  Other Magic players were Will Watkins (Berkeley HS), Myron Lawrence (Castlemont), McKinley Edwards (Castlemont), Mike Mitangi (Castlemont) and Markel Abrams (McClymonds).

Magic's Bell MVP At Showcase Shootout-98

David Bell of Hayward High was named MVP at the recent 3rd annual Select Showcase Shootout held in Alameda.  Named to the all Tournament Team from the #1 rated NorCal Magic were Paul Marigney and Myron Lawrence both from Castlemont High and Will Watkins from Berkeley.

MAGIC Wins State Tournament

Bay Area Youth Sports California State Basketball Championships Sponsored by Mervyn’s, drew over 92 teams from all over the state at the Alameda Naval Air Station.  In the boys varsity division the NorCal Magic Won the title. It was their fourth championship in the last five years.  In the semi finals the Magic defeated the Folsom Bulldogs 69-57 and in the  finals defeated the Shell & Widman Basketball Club of Sacramento 59-54.  Shell & Widman is the current Western Regional AAU Champions and had five players over 6’7.  The Magic controlled the game from tip-off and never trailed Shell & Widman.

Armand Wainwrght (Fremont / Oakland) and Kenny Walls (Galileo-SF) Were named CO-MVP’s.  Also on the All Tournament team were Antonae Roberson (Hayward HS) and Will Watkins (San Lorenzo HS).  Other Magic players were David Bell ( Hayward HS ), Derrick Flowers (San Lorenzo HS), Erik Ramp (Acalanes HS), Eric Rosby (Emery), Corey Patterson (Fremont-Oak), Paul Marigney (Hayward HS), Markel Abrams and Laqman Rahman both from McClymonds.

McIlwain MVP/Select Basketball Showcase-98

Steve McIlwain led the NorCal Magic to a 3-0 record at the Select Basketball Showcase Shootout at Encinal HS over the weekend.  McIlwain, a senior at Fremont Christian was named MVP, he is also the State scoring leader at 35 pts per game.  The magic defeated Vallejo 108-47, West Valley 90-48 and Los Gatos 75-36 at the NCAA-sanctioned event.

Also on the All Tournament were McDonalds All American Darrell Tucker from McClymonds and Eric Rosby from Emeryville HS, the Bay Valley League's MVP.

MAGIC WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT TOC

The NorCal Magic won its fourth consecutive Bay Area Youth Sports Tournament of Champions title last weekend at the Alameda Naval Station.

The Magic beat the Oakland Bobcats 67-52, and the Soquel Wolfpack 90-49, Before topping the Sacramento Adidas All-Stars 64-58 in the title game.

Will Watkins of San Lorenzo High was named MVP and Will Walker of Hayward HS won the Playmakers Award. Fremont of Oakland’s Larry Guess, Paul Marigney of Hayward HS and Derrick Flowers of San Lorenzo made the All Tournament Team.
