Darius & Antonio Parker Both Signed by Jackson State

By Mark Alexander

New Jackson State men's basketball coach Tevester Anderson  confirmed the signings of three new players including two brothers -- Oakland (Calif.) HS guard Darius Parker and San Francisco City College guard Antonio Parker.

Darius Parker, 6-3, averaged 22 points per game and was an All-Metro pick. Antonio Parker, 6-0, averaged 13 points. They grew up in Jackson before moving to California.

"We were looking to go somewhere that would take us both," Darius said. "Plus all of our family is from there and we really liked the school."

Parker Headed back Home

Darrius Parker, who won the heart of Oakland High fans with his long range bombing, signed a National Letter of Intent last week which will take him back home to his roots.

The 6-foot-3 inch shooting guard signed with Jackson St. of the South West Athletic Conference (SWAC). Parker says he was also being recruited by Alcorn St. and Alabama St. Texas and Georgia also expressed interest.

Parker, a native of Jackson, Mississippi, moved to California when he was six years old. The idea of returning home figured prominently in his decision. He also wanted to be reunited with his brother, Antonio Parker, who prepped at Oakland High and played the past two seasons at City College of San Francisco. The older Parker also signed with Jackson St. "I was looking to go somewhere that would take us both," Darrius said.

Parker averaged 22 points per game as a senior and was an All-OAL selection.
