Marquin Chandler named WAC "Player of the Week"

DENVER - San Jose State forward Marquin Chandler has been named the Western Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week for January 24-30.

Chandler, a senior from Oakland, Calif. (George Washington University), averaged 26.5 points and 12.5 rebounds as San Jose State beat Tulsa and Rice. He opened the week with 20 points and 14 rebounds versus Tulsa and then scored a career-high 33 points to go with 11 rebounds in the win over Rice. For the week, he was 22-of-38 (.579) from the field, 3-of-5 from three-point range and hit all six of his free throws. It was the first time the Spartans had won back-to-back conference games since the 2002 season. It is Chandler's second career WAC "Player of the Week" award and second this season.

The only other time a San Jose State player received two WAC men's basketball "Player of the Week" awards in the same season or in a career was in 1997-98 when Olivier Saint-Jean was honored twice.

The other nominations were senior center Mustafa Al-Sayyad, Fresno State; junior forward Julian Sensley, Hawai'i; senior forward Wayne Powell, Louisiana Tech; sophomore forward Devon Pearson, SMU; and senior forward Omar Thomas, UTEP
