JANOU RUBIN  6’4  SOPH  UCLA
All League & All Metro.

First congratulations are in order to Janou for making the UCLA Basketball Squad as a walk on. Was probably the best all-around player on the team (Magic) ….does everything well… very athletic….can run the court…play defense….has a knack for loose balls. An outstanding rebounder at both ends of court. I like his point guard skills. Another James Logan high school player.

KELLEN DIXON  6’5  FR  U C RIVERSIDE
Former All League, All Metro player.

A Redshirt freshman from St. Mary’s HS in Berkeley. A starter on the 99 Nike Vegas Summer Classic Championship Team. A natural 3, Kellen played mostly the 4 for Magic. A tough rebounder and one of the best a Tournament…scores very strong from under the ….can shoot off the dribble….a finesse player that works very hard….plays good defense.

KEVIN BUTLER  6’3  SOPH  U C RIVERSIDE
Former All League performer from St Joseph’s of Alameda. A natural point guard with2 guard skills….sees the court extremely….understands the game and can run an offense. Also able to create his own shot…also played a little 2 guard for the Magic…has handles can Penny and dish…..run’s the court well, a smart player.
MIKE BUGGS  6’5  SR  METRO STATE, DENVER
The former Tennyson HS, Chabot College star is having a good season for Metro State Averaging about 14 pts and 7 rebounds per game. Mike played for the Magic for 3 yrs. Was a big time scorer and rebounder…very strong in the paint on offense and defense…has a variety of low post moves that work for him…quicker than he looks…good shot blocker. In High School was named All League, All Metro and was named to the All State team at Chabot College.
STEVE McILWAIN  6’2  SR  AZUSA PACIFIC
The former All State, All League, All Metro and McDonalds All American has settled in At Azusa Pacific. Averaging about 14 pts per game while shooting 90 % from the free-throw line and hitting 44 % from the 3 point line and they are currently 19-4 (2/4/02). At Fremont Christian HS was the State’s scoring leader at 35 points per game and continued his play at Canada College where he made All Conference & All State. A prolific scorer with point guard skills…understands the game...a hard nose player…very good off the dribble.
DAVID BELL  6'1  SR.  Univ. of Montana
David was one of the West Coast’s premier guards in the Junior college ranks for one of the top programs in the State. After helping Porterville win the California State Championships the All Conference guard jumped to a blistering start avg. 20 pts per game. He led the team to 3 preseason Tournament wins, he was All Tournament at Porterville and Skyline Tournaments and MVP at the Diablo Valley Holiday Tournament. Bell is a 2 time All Central Valley Conference selection and finished his sophomore year avg. 17 pts per game, while being ranked 3rd in the State in 3 pt shots. A League MVP from Hayward High he was also All Metro and MVP of his AAU Team the NorCal Magic. David is an outstanding 3 pt. shooter, can penetrate and dish with the best, offensively can carry a team, also top defensive. The word was that David Bell could be the best guard to ever come out of Porterville College. A 1/2. Has continued his assault on the game at the next level. 2 time All Conference @ Montana. Averaging about 18 pts per game over 2 seasons. (3/8/03)
ANTONAE ROBERSON  6'5  JR  Univ. of Alabama, Birmingham
Antonae led the San Jose City College Jaguars to the California Jr. College State  finals and was named to the All Conference Team and the California All State Team.  And for his efforts Antonae was named to the  Street & Smiths All American Team.  He was ranked as the 7th best small forward in the Nation. The former 2 time Nor Cal Magic MVP is right on time, big, strong & fast with an attitude to win,  again lead SJCC into the State finals…I saw him at the Chabot College Classic during the Xmas Holidays, he was named MVP as SJCC won the Tourney. He was in form scoring 29 pts in Championship game. Repeatedly scoring off the dribble to the glass from up to 18 ft out.  Sometimes missing but getting the rebound over bigger players and jamming it. Can dominate from both ends of the court. Antonae finished his Soph year avg. 22 pts and 10 rebounds
VICTOR VENTERS  6’8   Jr.  Univ. of Montana
A 3 year All League performer at St Mary’s in Berkeley…Really came on toward the end of the season after adding bulk the previous year.  A wide body and very strong rebounder and shot blocker……has a variety of low post moves.  Victor can hit that 8 to 10 ft shot.  Can get to the basket….should be a big addition to the Montana squad if they give him a chance.  Play’s bigger than he looks, has the strength to play center.  Victor can play either the 4 or 5. Played  last year at DVC where he was All Conference and avg. 15 pts, 11 rebounds,1.5 blocks and 4 assist.  Was also voted the teams MVP as they advanced to the States final 8,

 

ARMANDO SURRATT 5’10    Univ. of Miami
Streets & Smiths All American (HM), All League, All Metro NorCal Preps # 1 Rated Point Guard, PAC West Hoops-All West Coast

Without question the best Pt Guard in Northern Calif. He has speed, quickness and explodes off his dribble to dominate his opponent. Fast as greased lightening is the crossover as he goes pass to score. His understanding of the game is beyond his years. Mondo has very good vision and seems to know where his teammates are going on the court. Some think he’s small, but don’t be fooled he is a major talent that could dominate at the next level, in the right situation. Although listed as point, Mondo does play on wing at Tech, a prolific scorer from anywhere. We’re mighty happy to have Mondo & Duce on board with The Magic.

WILL WALKER  5’10  JR  CASCADE COLLEGE
The former 2 time All Conference performer from Ohlone College has settled at Cascade College in Portland, Oregon. Played on the 98 Nike Las Vegas Summer Classic Championship team. Outstanding skills, can shoot, can also hit the 3 point shot. Will’s An outstanding ball handler and will be a valuable addition to the Cascade roster.

All League, AAU Regional Tournament MVP, Las Vegas Summer Classic All Tournament, Pump Bros WCASC-All Star Team, Slam n Jam Super 100.

Very strong inside player…major rebounder…works very hard around glass..."no one takes a ball from Big Will"…the consummate blue collar player…rebounding and blocking shots…variety of low post moves…Sr. year really improved overall scoring. Graduated from O'Dowd.

Tremendous vertical…can create off dribble…strong to the basket and inside moves…outstanding defense…can shut down the opposing high scoring guard or small forward…has quick feet and can hit the 3 pt shot…can ignite the team. Graduated from San Leandro HS.

All League, World Basketball Tournament MVP, All Metro, NorCal Magic MVP

Major rebounder and shot blocker, worked on low post moves over summer….Ave over 20 pts and 14 Rebounds per game…Was named NorCal Magic (MVP) ... Has vertical like you haven’t seen…has reputation of jumping over players…on a fast break if the opposing player steps in to take the charge, Trimaine will jump over him and dunk…did it in Vegas and the fans in the stands poured onto the court…We received a tech for fans being on court…he’s the real deal…Trimaine will red shirt this season at San Diego St Univ.

MARCUS WILLIAMS

All League, HAAL’s 4th leading scorer @ 16.5 per game

Can play the /2/3…outstanding skills…understands the game…runs the court very well….can hit the open shot, good range…smooth player…outstanding rebounder. Graduated from Arroyo HS.

CHEO WHITE 

FR  6’1  Hampton Univ.

All League, Super Star Camp Super 16

The only starter left from the Div 2 State Runner-ups…finally getting his chance...currently leading the team in scoring at 21 pts per game. ..a left handed slasher can either play the 1 or 2…outstanding handles, one of the better defensive players on the Magic....outstanding mid range jumper. Will Redshirt this season at Hampton. Graduated from Newark Memorial.

BAKARI ALTHEIMER 

Fr.   5’11  Santa Clara Univ.

All League, All Metro, Pump Bros All West Coast, Slam n Jam Super 100 Nor Cal Prep Top 20, All State (HM)

Also one of the top Pt Guards in Bay Area…a speedster with handles…can penny & dish…can shoot off dribble from anywhere on the court…very difficult to guard, puts pressure on defense…a scorer with point guard skills. Graduated from St Elizabeth HS.

MARQUIN CHANDLER  6'7  SOPH  GEO WASHINGTON UNIV.
Magic MVP in 2000 and our team leader. Was also named by Cal High Sports to the All State Team & Sports Focus Player of the Year. A natural wing played 4/5 in HS. With the Magic he guided our point forward offense, with Marquin bringing up the ball most of the time. Can also hit the three point shot with amazing accuracy and especially when we needed it. Dribbles very well in open court. Expect big things out of Marquin, he has all the tools to be successful at the next level. Can flat out dominate a game. Led Newark Memorial HS to 2nd Place in California Division 2, guarded and out scored Dominguez Hills, NBA prospect 7 footer Tyson Chandler. 1 / 25 / 01
PAUL MARIGNEY  6'5  SOPH  ST. MARY'S COLLEGE

One of the most versatile players to ever wear a Magic jersey, can play point guard through power forward. Has outstanding handles..in 98 led OAL in scoring at 29.7 per game... A slasher, scorer...outstanding rebounder. A very consistent player. Always in the scoring from tip to buzzer...Played point guard on the '98 Nike Summer Classic Championship Team. Very athletic...a player. A 1 / 2 / 3 at the college level...should do very well. 1 / 25 / 01

GARY HILL-THOMAS 6'5  SOPH  UNIV. OF NEVADA

Was probably the best defensive player on the squad...could always be counted on to stop the opposing team's top scorer. At the 3 or 4 position...a tenacious rebounder...offensively he can get to basket, spot up or hit the 3 pt shot with regularity. Outstanding finisher, puts pressure on defense...very aggressive player has ability to ignite the defense to an offensive roll. Runs the court...1 2/3

MARION THURMOND  6'8  SR  SAN JOSE ST. UNIV.

Marion's game really went upscale last season just as we had predicted. Here's what we said about him early last season. "A wide body, soft hands, light on his feet, strong rebounder and shot blocker. A great addition to a D1 program. A sleeper, watch stats this season, improving fast. Good attitude." By season's end his honors included a 1st Team All State and named MVP of his conference at Diablo Valley. Former San Francisco Player of the Year… All State selection… left-handed swingman very fast off the dribble…can hit the 3 pt.. shot… plays defense… outstanding vertical… currently ave.10.4 pts. & 4.0 rebounds per game… the "Boston College Insider Report" has Kenny listed under " who’s sizzling"… last 4 games he shot 20 for 37 from the field. 12/29/99

DARRYL TUCKER     USF

After spending one year at Redemption Prep in NY, the former McClymonds McDonald’s All American is avg. 10 pts. & 10 rebounds per game… the former prep Metro Player of the Year and all state selection is fitting in just fine at USF… Darryl is a major talent… he can do it all… run the court… score from almost anywhere… block shots… plays outstanding defense and a tenacious rebounder… can also hit the 3 pt. shot… USF is doing very good with a 11-1 start this season. 1-06-00

WILL LEVY  6'8  GRADUATED  EASTERN WASHINGTON

Former All State JC player from Diablo Valley & League MVP… the consummate blue collar player… does all the little things well… outstanding rebounder, especially from the defensive end… outlets ball quickly to start fast break… excellent shot blocker… very serious about the game… a leader… doesn’t like to lose… runs the court… can be a dominate force on defense or offense… currently avg.. 7 pts. & 8 rebounds per game for the Eagles. 1-06-00

Having an outstanding season for the Billikens… avg.. 21 pts per game and shooting 80% from the free-throw line… 46 % field goal percentage and 38 % from the 3 pt. range… former San Francisco All City performer from Sacred Heart… this 2 guard is something special.

JAMAL HILL  6’6  JR  Arizona St. Univ.
After helping SJCC finished 2nd in the State and making All Conference last season Jamal is off to a hot start avg. 23 pts per game and ranked 4th in the State (1/5/02) in scoring. Jamal is also ranked in the top ten in free throw shooting. I have no doubt that SJCC will again make it to the California State Finals in March and Jamal will be a big part of it. Jamal consistently hits the big shot a crunch time. Can always get to the basket and always gets a good look. Quick and athletic. Jamal split point guard duties with Paul Marigney ( ST. Mary’s ) on 99 Nike Summer Classic Championship Team. In high school at El Cerrito Jamal was named All League, All Metro, Fox Sports Top 50 California and 99 Nike Summer Classic MVP and a host of All Tourney selections. A good defensive player, Jamal has a lot of up side to his game. Was named MVP at the recent Chabot College Gladiator Classic Tournament. Expecting big things from him. Wants the ball when game is on the line. A 2/3. Jamal is adjusting quite well at Arizona St. averaging about 10 pts per game, Next season should be a break out year (2004). 3/08/03
MIKE MITANGI  5’10  JR  CASCADE COLLEGE
Mike played at Long Beach Wilson and Castlemont (Oakland) where he was named All League At both schools.  An outstanding point guard that can run the court with the best, more like a true point guard that can score, in fact scoring has improved. Can hit the big shot when it’s needed.  Very strong off the dribble and in the open court.  Very tough from the defensive end, can shut down the opposing guard. 
BRENDAN  ERICKSON             6’3 SOPH OHLONE COLLEGE
A two year All League performer out of Newark Memorial, his JR year team was runner in State Div. 2. Started on team w/ Marquin Chandler (George Washington Univ.) and Cheo White (Redshirt at Hampton Univ. ).  Brendan has that long range shooting ability to go with his excellent  shooting…can shoot off the dribble.  Has no problem creating his own shot and getting to the basket….a good team player, passes well and moves well without the ball.

 

MARKEL ABRAMS 6’9        FR            SKYLINE COLLEGE
A transferee from Sheridan CC in Wyoming, the former McClymonds star is a Redshirt at Skyline The big left hander is an outstanding shot blocker…and can rebound at both ends…seems to get that needed rebound that you need at the right time….good offensive low post skills…has developed a medium range J that he hits with regularity….good foul shooter.
