DaShawn Freeman Player of the Week

Sacramento State guard DaShawn Freeman has been selected the Big Sky Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played between Dec. 12-18.

Freeman, a 5-foot-11 senior from Oakland, Calif., scored a game-high 17 points with four assists, three steals and four rebounds in Sacramento State’s 76-68 victory at Southern Utah. Freeman made 4-of-6 3-pointers. With the three steals, Freeman now has 226 in his career, which ranks him third all-time in Big Sky history.

It was Sacramento State’s first victory in Utah since the Hornets moved to Division I in 1991-92. Sacramento State had been 0-19 in the Beehive State and 0-8 all-time in Cedar City prior to Saturday’s victory.

Freeman scored 11 of Sacramento State’s final 19 points in the contest, and went 3-for-3 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line during the span.

Freeman has led the Hornets in scoring in five games this season. He’s shooting a carer-best 51.3 percent from the field and a league-best 54.5 percent from 3-point range.

Freeman ranks sixth in the league in scoring at 14.8 points per game. He ranks first in steals, second in assists and eighth in field goal percentage.

This is Freeman’s second Player of the Week award this season. He shared the honor on Nov. 28 with Montana’s Kevin Criswell.
