NorCal Magic Runner-up @ Rumble 2006

The Magic had three players named to All Tournament Team: Adam Chavis (Castlemont), Terrance Wilder  (McClymonds), and Ben Washington (Newark Memorial) The Magic went 7-1 only losing to Shakur Village in The Finals

At the 5th Annual Patrick Dennehy Memorial Rumble in the Bay Boy’s Basketball Tournament held @ the University of Santa Clara, the NorCal Magic finished runner –up to Shakur Village, out of a field of 76 teams. The Magic started on a roll by beating Sacramento’s Basketball Town Pharaoh’s, 67-58. Top scorers for this game were Jon Darwin (15), Terrance Wilder (12), Adam Chavis (12) & Melvin Blue (10). Next we beat A very tough and top ranked Colorado Chaos, they were all big, fast and could shoot lights out and didn’t miss any free throws. Terrance Wilder led the assault with 19 pts. and some big rebounds . Robert Owens (16), Adam Chavis (10), and Ben Washington (10). Magic 63, Colorado 57. Our next win was over the Hoop Time Blue Devils 77-57. Top scorers Were Terrance Wilder (16), Ben Washington (14), Adam Chavis (13), Denarrio Tatmon (13), Robert Owens (13). Our next victim was a very tough Arizona Magic, whom like the Colorado came in with a superior attitude, but we handled them 78-67 probably our best played game. Adam Chavis lit them up with (28) and Robert “Chewie” Owens followed (21) hitting 5, 3 pointers. Ben Washington(11), Terrance Wilder (10) and Jon Darwin (10).Like Colorado they seemed in shock after the game. San Diego Slam N Jam, we beat 53-50 but it was a tough game. They Matched up against very well. Their guards were faster and could shoot. Their big men were better than our’s . But we toughed it out with Adam Chavis leading the way with 20 points. Robert Owens (10) and Jon Darwin (10) and a lot of big rebounds from Terrance Wilder to go with his 8 points. We are now 5-0 in the tournament and our next 2 win’s are straight out of Walt Disney. We won back to back games in double overtime, sudden death (meaning 1st shot wins). First game was against The Spitit of the North from Sacramento . Top scorers were Terramce Wilder (15), Robert Owens (15) and Ben Washington (14). But the most important shot of the game was taken and made by Adam Chavis (8 pts)on a jump ball tip from Jabari McIntosh. Adam pentrating to the basket and scoring on a clear out. Basket made we win 72-70. Our next game was against Play Hard Play Smart from Sacramento (PHPS). The game was won by Adam Chavis on a deep 2 pointer, after he received a pass from Ben Washington., after a jump tip from Jabari McIntosh, in sudden death. Game over we win 60-58. Top scorers were Jon Darwin (15), Ben Washington (11) and Adam Chavis (10), and tough rebounding from Terrance Wilder (8 pts ). In the Finals we played Shakur Village and after 2 overtime wins in sudden death we were a little flat. Just didn’t seem to have the energy needed to beat them. Shakur Village 60-51 over the Magic. Shakur Village finished with a record of 7-1. Same as the Magic. They lost to Play Hard Play Smart and we beat them. From the Magic side Adam Chavis was our MVP, our All Tourney selections was Terrance Wilder, Ben Washington, Jon Darwin and Robert Owens. And special acknowledgements for Jeff Ford, Jabari McIntosh, Melvin Blue and Denarrio Tatmon.
