PRESS Release

MAGIC WIN 2010-EOYDC

At the 2010 EOYDC (East Oakland Youth Development Center)

Black College Basketball League, The NorCal Magic won the Championship.

The Magic was the # 3 seed going into the tournament. First, they beat the

# 4 seed, Oakland CYO, 56-39. In the semi final game they beat the # 2 seed,

Oakland Panthers, 55-50. Then in the finals, they faced the # 1 seed, St. Johns of Richmond. In 3 games against St. Johns this year, they only won once. So the Magic had it’s work cut out for them. The Magic, playing in the 19 & under Division, needed a collective effort to win the Championship. The Magic started out down 13-4., and was down by 7 at the half. With 4 minutes left in the game and 5 points down the Magic went to work. From the defensive end, a blocked shot by Anthony Turner, a steal by Troy Moon, a timely shot by Chris James, another rebound by Louis Lowe and then a score by Anthony Turner. With less than 40 seconds left in the game Mico Johnson was fouled on a dribble drive to the basket. Johnson made both shots to put the Magic up 51-49. Another stop on the defensive end and a rebound and score by Turner allowed The NorCal Magic to hang on and win the Championship 53-49. Anthony Turner of Oklahoma University of Arts & Sciences was named MVP.
